Calcium carbonate is one of the brightest and most cost-effective extenders available. Huber Engineered Materials manufactures over 40 grades of calcium carbonate, ranging in particle size from 1 micron to 2000 microns. Our finest particle size products are also available with a stearic acid treatment for fast dispersion in solvent based systems.
Huber supplies ground calcium carbonate grades manufactured in:
Marble Hill, GA Hubercarb® G-series
Quincy, IL Hubercarb Q series and Hubercarb W series
Marble Falls, TX Hubercarb M series
Nearly eliminate the crystalline silica content of your calcium carbonate with high brightness Optifil and Hubercarb W series products. These grades contain extremely low crystalline silica content (<0.1%) with low moisture pick-up and rounded particle shape which improve surface finish and reduce equipment abrasion.
Structured silicates: "Touch-up" without worry.
Zeolex® 94HP is a synthetic structured pigment that entraps air in the coating, leading to increased opacity and outstanding tinting. And it’s different from naturally occurring kaolin silicates in three significant ways:
1. Zeolex 94HP actually interacts with the resin to improve its film integrity
2. It acts as a pH buffer and enables you to eliminate or dramatically reduce the
amount of amine (ammonia, AMP®-95) in the formulation while maintaining excellent
shelf-stability at an alkaline pH
3. It has an alkaline pH that renders cellulosic thickeners more efficiently, enabling you
to reduce the thickener levels in your coating’s formulation
Barium Sulfate – Low surface area and low tint strength
Ground barium sulfate is extremely dense, inert and has low oil absorption. The low oil absorption and high specific gravity of barium sulfate (4.4) makes it an excellent choice for applications requiring impact resistance and for coatings and inks sold by weight, and not by volume.
Huberbrite® products by Huber have a GE brightness of 94, and are available in 1, 3, 7 and 10 microns. Their high brightness maintains white coatings, but they have very low tint strength, so they can be used to extend dark color coatings.
