TiO2 extenders that deliver the best performance for the money.
Extend titanium dioxide with a mineral that’s similar in particle size – for optimum spacing. TiO2 and Huber HG-90 are both approximately 0.2 microns. Huber HG-90 is a very high brightness kaolin clay.
For white rubber formulations
Increase the durability of white rubber compounds and extend titanium dioxide. You can do both with Hydrex® R sodium-magnesium-aluminosilicate. Hydrex R acts as a UV light reflector. That’s different from titanium dioxide (TiO2), which serves as a UV light absorber. Without Hydrex R, the absorption of light energy creates free radicals in the compound that ultimately degrade the polymer system. The addition of Hydrex R mitigates the effect of exposure to sunlight and other UV sources.
Typically, Hydrex R costs significantly less than TiO2. Hydrex R is also very bright — its GE brightness is over 98. By substituting 10 to 15% of the titanium dioxide with Hydrex R, the compound stays whiter longer, and will not compromise mechanical properties. Organic colors (especially red and purple) will stay brighter and truer longer when TiO2 is replaced with Hydrex R, the UV light reflector.
Impart flame retardance and extend titanium dioxide
Huber’s 1 micron Micral® 9400 alumina trihydrate has outstanding brightness. It’s also low in oil absorption, allowing high loadings and good flame retardant efficiency.
Calcium carbonate is one of the brightest and most cost-effective extenders available. Huber Engineered Materials manufactures over 40 grades of Hubercarb® calcium carbonate, including 1 micron products which are used to extend TiO2. Our finest particle size products are also available with a stearic acid treatment for fast dispersion. Suggested products: Hubercarb® Q-1 and its treated analog, Q-1 T high brightness and Optifil® JSU and its treated analog, Optifil® JS
Ground barium sulfate is extremely dense, inert and has low oil absorption. Huberbrite® 1 is a one micron barium sulfate with 94 brightness, so it can be filled at high loadings for clean, bright colors.
