Makers of antacids have come to praise Hubercal calcium carbonate for its low abrasivity and high purity.

Ingredients for antacid formulation

Independently verified quality
Historically, formulators have had to choose between ground calcium carbonate (GCC) for its cost advantage and precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) for its purity. Now, with HuberCal® calcium carbonate, formulators can choose a natural product without compromising quality. Independent analysis has validated the HuberCal quality advantage.

Not just pure. Ultra-pure.
In addition to having a higher calcium assay – typically greater than 99% – HuberCal Elite calcium carbonates exceed the US, European and Japanese Pharmacopeia† requirements for purity.

Demonstrated low lead impurities
More and more, consumers are concerned about lead ingestion. The HuberCal Elite family of products addresses this concern. Several years ago, the state of California ruled in favor of a class action lawsuit brought against major antacid manufacturers for exceeding the lead limits outlined in California Proposition 65. HuberCal Elite calcium carbonate contains lead impurities consistently < 125 ppb, a value well below the limit accepted by the state of California for antacid tablets under Proposition 65. Granulations made from HuberCal Elite calcium carbonate are also consistently below 125 ppb.

Low acid insolubles
Another measure of the purity of calcium carbonate is the amount of acid insoluble material contained in the product. When pure calcium carbonate reacts with acid, there should be no residue. HuberCal Elite calcium carbonate exceeds the US, European and JapanesePharmacopeia† requirements for acid insolubles.

Superior sensory perception
Nine out of ten new food products fail for one reason: Failure to integrate sensory data in product testing.1 Huber Engineered Materials is well aware of the importance of texture. That’s why we commissioned an independent lab to perform a comparative sensory analysis of the texture of competing calcium carbonate products in a generic chewable tablet formulation. The results proved our superior sensory performance.

Lower abrasivity
Abrasion of equipment is an important concern for those who process calcium carbonate. A comparative test of samples of precipitated calcium carbonate products from the leading supplier shows that the HuberCal Elite family of calcium carbonates is much less abrasive.  Moreover, our customers tell us that the lower abrasivity of HuberCal calcium carbonate leads to longer tooling life in tablet equipment
