ATLANTA, GA, April 20, 2011 – Huber Engineered Materials’ Health & Nutrition business unit will discuss its new capability of producing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), such as calcium carbonate granulation for use in the manufacturing of antacids and other pharma applications at this year’s SupplySide East (SSE) trade show. The event is scheduled for May 2-4, 2011, at the Meadowlands Exposition Center in Secaucus, N.J. Huber will be in booth 1651.
The license to produce APIs granted by California’s Department of Public Health – Food and Drug Branch represents a significant milestone for the continued development of Huber’s Health & Nutrition business and its Modesto, California, granulation facility. Huber Health & Nutrition also produces pharmaceutical grade products at its Quincy, Illinois, operation, which is also registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for producing APIs.

Huber became a granulator of calcium carbonate and oyster shell powders with its 2003 acquisition of Micro Powders and Braig Incorporated and added to its portfolio with the addition of West Coast Ingredients in 2006. A significant advancement in Huber’s particle engineering capacity was made in 2007 with the addition of fluid bed granulation and trituration.
At the SupplySide East event, Huber will also be discussing its GMA safe status for its HuberCal® natural calcium carbonate powder manufacturing facility in Quincy. The operation has been audited to the GMA Safe High Industry Standard and is registered in complicance with the FDA Bioterrorism Act.
