Specialty excipients, like "surface treated" and/or "granulated" calcium or silicate products, provide catalytic and aesthetic enhancements like binding, taste and texture. When blended with other specialty, non-active ingredients, excipients can deliver valuable functional attributes, like particle disintegration or time release, which allow drug marketers to explore new selling messages. Excipients also improve the process of making the tablets by either preventing moisture caking that clogs equipment or serving as an absorbent to "carry" viscous liquid actives and other materials.
