Titanium Dioxide Extension and UV protection with Hydrex® R
Huber Product for Longer Lasting, More Cost Effective Rubber Formulations
Hydrex® R is a sodium magnesium aluminosilicate that acts as a UV light reflector, contrasted with titanium dioxide (TiO2), which serves as a UV light absorber. This attribute means that replacing expensive titanium dioxide with Hydrex R makes for a longer lasting, less expensive rubber product. Hydrex R is also very bright — with a GE brightness greater than 98%. By substituting 10 to 15% of the titanium dioxide with Hydrex R, the rubber compound stays whiter longer and without compromise to the rubber products mechanical properties.
Without Hydrex R, the absorption of light energy creates free radicals in the compound that ultimately degrade the polymer system. The addition of Hydrex R mitigates the effect of exposure to sunlight and other UV sources. Organic colors (especially red and purple) will also stay brighter and truer longer with Hydrex R, the UV light reflector and titanium dioxide extender.
