RxCIPIENTS® GL Series
(precipitated silica)

TABLET WEIGHT VARIATION: EMPIRICAL TEST RESULTS

Compared against colloidal silica, RxCIPIENTS precipitated silica glidants had significantly less variation in tablet weight.

Colloidal silica, RxCIPIENTS GL100, and RxCIPIENTS GL200 each were mixed with a 50:50 blend of impalpable lactose and Avicel 101 MCC. Tablets were compressed on a Piccola 8 station D press at 330mg target weight using 10mm standard concave tooling. The press was run at 30rpm under steady state conditions to accumulate tablets.

A random sample of 100 tablets was collected from each of the runs. Each tablet was weighed individually. The tablets produced using RxCIPIENTS GL glidants had a significantly lower standard deviation than tablets containing colloidal silica as the glidant. (See Table 1 for test data.)
